Karnataka Is Now What Bihar Used to be a Decade Ago?   Leave a comment

It All Started in January 2006  When then Chief Minister Dharam Singh was Forced for a Trust Vote by H.D.Kumaraswamy who had forged an Alliance With BJP’s B.S.Yeddyurappa to pull down a Congress and JD-S coalition Government and they succeeded in pulling down a 20 month Government this was the start of Nataka (Drama) in Karnataka

Things were Good Initially and  H.D.Kumaraswamy became  Chief Minister and B.S.Yeddyurappa became Deputy Chief Minister and was the start of T-20 Match they had agreed upon with JD-S having it’s Nominee as CM for the First 20 Months and BJP having it’s Nominee as CM for Next 20 Months .Then came a Storm  when Janardhana Reddy-BJP MLC  accused then  CM H D Kumaraswamy of the JD(S) and released a set of documents purporting to prove that Kumaraswamy’s family was involved in illegal iron ore trading.and Documents and CDs relating to the Rs 150-crore bribe scam, will be handed over to the Karnataka Lokayukta, who will probe illegal mining. This Resulted in Exit of Sriramulu BJP Strong man from Bellary as Minister From JD-S -BJP  Coalition Government .Things Stabilized then came Village Stays and Bypoll to Take on Siddaramaiah who was Contesting on Congress Ticket  .BJP did not put up a Candidate and supported JD-S Candidate .It was a photo Finish as Siddaramaiah beat the ruling coalition’s joint candidate Shivabasappa by 257 votes to register his fifth win from his home-turf Chamundeshwari assembly constituency in Mysore.

Then Came the Transfer of Power Issue From JD-S to BJP .JD-S started negotiations in violation of Earlier Agreement which said all the Portfolio’s will be reversed but JD-S  wanted Mines and Geology ,Urban Development ,PWD etc which were Hot cakes but BJP desisted and JD-S Insisted on setting up a Co-ordination Committee and Defining Common Minimum Program .After Great Drama which included BJP-JD(S)  parading  MLAs before President by when JD(S) national president and former PM HD Deve Gowda created unease by sending a 12-point MoU draft to BJP leaders for supporting the government  which is also referred to “Sukha Sarakara Gowdara 12 Sutharagalu “.After the Parade of MLA’s Yeddyurappa was made CM and asked to take a floor Test.Drama did not end here Just hours before the B.S.Yeddyurappa led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government”s floor test in the Karnataka Assembly, its coalition partner, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) has issued a whip to vote against the BJP Government during the trust vote. The decision was taken during the JD-S legislature party meeting this morning. The move was reportedly taken after talks between Yeddyurappa and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy over the 12-point MoU collapsed .The JD (S) demands include the post of Deputy Chief Minister to the JD (S) nominee, and portfolios of ministries in consultation with Kumaraswamy.Further, the JD (S) has demanded portfolios of Mines and Geology and Urban Development, which have been rejected by Yeddyurappa. He has also rejected JD (S) demand for non-induction of former minister and BJP leader B Sriramulu, who had filed a criminal complaint in August against Kumarswamy, into the Ministry .All this Drama Unfolded in November 2007.

BSY Crying after Kumaraswamy reneged

When Kumaraswamy reneged on the power sharing pact with BJP and refused to transfer power in 2007, Yeddyurappa criss- crossed the state on the plank of “JDS betrayal”  .However  Congress was smart enough to impose President Rule for a period of five months  then announcing snap polls However  Yeddyurappa brought BJP close  to power on its own in the May  2008 assembly polls. However BJP was short of three MLA’s to form their Own Government .This also is instance when Reddy Brothers who hunted down six Independents with whom BJP formed it’s Own Government in Southern State of Karnataka .
