Operating systems at 5 unexpected places

Smarter operating systems are soon going to move out of your cellphone and tablet to places you would least expect. Here we give you a taste of what to expect

Samsung already sells a refrigerator that has apps to download recipes, browse the Internet, update social networks and leave notes for others using the front-mounted touchscreen LCD.

With a smarter operating system (coming soon), you can expect the refrigerator to notify you of groceries that are about to run out or order them online automatically. The fridge will also be able to communicate with other smart devices like ovens and suggest recipes based on available groceries.

Google already sells Google TV – an Android-powered solution available as an add-on box (Logitech Revue) or built into a TV from Sony. It includes the Chrome web browser with access to apps and streaming multimedia.

Others like Lenovo, and even Onida have launched TVs running Android. These televisions will have access to Android apps which can then be used to deliver audio/video content on demand as well as live TV streaming over the internet. These TVs will also be expandable (open to new features) and will be able to connect to your existing mobile devices for remote operation, scheduling and remote playback.

You can already buy watch phones like LG’s GD910 and Burg’s watch phone – but these devices have a proprietary operating system, even though they allow Internet browsing and have speech recognition capabilities.

Sony’s new Android-powered SmartWatch ($150) can connect with your existing Android smartphone to display incoming calls, SMS, email and other updates on the watch’s touchscreen. In the near future, a smarter watch can combine all these functions and also keep track of your heart rate, location and serve as a fitness trainer.

The smarter microwave oven of the near future will be connected to the internet wirelessly and will have an operating system controlled via colour touchscreen. Apart from actually controlling what the oven does, you could use the system for cooking tips, to instantly download new recipes or simply ask it to suggest food that you can make with ingredients you already have.

It could also provide real-time info on calories, disgnostics infomation and connect with your smartphone to inform you when your meal is done

Home security system

Home security system

Smarter home security systems will be completely user configurable, expandable and will enable connectivity with your existing mobile devices.

Like many existing solutions, you will be able to remotely monitor your home from a mobile device, remotely enable/disable the syetem, but by virtue it being powered by a smart OS (like Android or Linux), you will be able to add applications to it – like an app that can monitor the weather, control your airconditioners and home entertainment system.

  1. Got surprised to know the diverse use of operating system even in refrigerator and watch! Users will feel more comfort by these supports. Thanks for a wonderful update.

  2. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.programy partnerskie

  3. Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.moje gry

  4. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case. program partnerski

  5. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  6. An experiment is a methodical trial and error procedure carried out with the goal of verifying, falsifying, or establishing the validity of a hypothesis.1243
