Since the past few years,Facebook has gradually grown to become the leading social media networking site across the world catering to more than 1.11 billion users.
Mark Zuckerberg’s pet project definitely took off, catapulting him to instant stardom and making him the undisputed champion in the field of social networking.
Right from purchasing Instagram for a $1 billion to taking over the market with ease, Facebook has done it all. Let’s have a look at few major changes that have occurred in Facebook since its existence and how it has shaped up to be what it is today.
1. Facebook Pages
Initially, Facebook was strictly constricted to people and their ability to connect with each other. Soon though, Facebook realized brands and companies making brand profiles and adding people up, and that is when they kicked off the Facebook Pages. Started in 2010, now it possible to create a Facebook page with the click of a button.
The Ticker was the next biggest addition for Facebook, allowing people to seamlessly get a stream of notifications about their friends and their whereabouts. Taking social networking to a whole new level, Ticker, introduced in 2011, enabled users to keep a tab on every activity happening around them. Users got addicted to it instantly and it proved to be a stalker’s delight.
3. Video Chat
Another addition to Facebook’s technological implementation was the Video Chat, allowing users to ditch Skype and resort to Video Chat for all video calling. A nifty add-on, Video Chat would have definitely worked wonders for Facebook, but it failed to attract the audience, especially the ones who had sworn allegiance to Skype and were hardened and loyal Skype users. Introduced in 2011, they soon got rid of it.
Timeline has to be the most prominent change of them all. Changing the whole concept of Facebook ‘Wall’ and taking it to a whole new level was what Facebook had envisioned, and they did a pretty good job at nailing it. The new wall, called the Timeline, literally allowed a user to customize his wall right from his birth to add any notable or important event on its specified date. A very handy feature, this allowed people to upload anything on the basis of its date, be it an image, a status update, a relationship update, or a graduation!
A mellowed down version of sending Friend’s Request, Subscription allows a user to get all the updates of a person whom he may be keen on following, with or without the means to Like, Comment or Share it. In simple words, it allows a user to do everything that a friend does, except for chat through the messenger. Yet another cookie for the stalker’s to rejoice!
